Last year a group of your friends and neighbors had an idea for a pop-up university to bring the Weston community together through a series of classes and events in March 2020. Classes would be taught by neighbors and would be free — we would meet new people, make new friends, learn something and have some fun.
 
We put together 18 classes and  were successful beyond our wildest dreams. More than 120 people signed up; many classes filled immediately so we had waiting lists – 50 people signed up to talk about the future of Weston. Teachers had a lot of fun and found it very rewarding. Attendees reconnected  with old friends and met new ones. Close to 100 kids and adults attended Snow or No Snow Games at the Weston Recreation Club for snow bowling, tube sliding, hot cocoa and family fun!
 
But, exactly one month ago, the corona virus caused us to cancel the remaining classes. And shortly thereafter, Governor Scott, to keep our state safe, ordered a close down of Vermont except for essential services.
 
The Weston U steering group reconvened to see if there was a way to continue the good work – recognizing that now, probably more than ever, we need to come together as a community. Rather than abruptly close Weston U, we decided that we would turn Weston U into a virtual university and finish this year’s programs by holding a few more classes during the month of April. We will do them “online”, and after that we will go off line and quietly close up shop until next semester – anticipated to occur in March 2021 – when we all hope that the world will have returned to some sense of normalcy.
